Willow Glen United Methodist Church Wedding | Alison + Goulit
I am really excited to share this wedding because Alison and Goulit are extraordinary people, and the love they have for each other and for others is unlike most things. I have to share some of their story, but I'm going to let Alison tell it "Goulit and I met and fell in love in Haiti! He's Haitian, and I had been traveling out to an orphanage in the mountains with the non profit I worked for. He was from the city, but the orphanage belonged to his pastor, so he would come up to help with mission teams serving as a translator. Eventually I knew God wanted me in Haiti, so I sold everything and moved out there full time to live at the orphanage and care for the children. Goulit and I became closer friends as he visited the orphanage often. Eventually his feelings changed, and he began pursuing me (he told me he would marry me before we even started dating!) I was reluctant but finally admitted I felt the same. We started dating September 2014. When my translator left to pursue studies in America, Goulit moved up to the mountains and served full time at the orphanage with me. Suddenly, we were raising 54 kids together!! Our relationship had to get serious fast! He proposed on August 1st in the midst of the normal Saturday night chaos with the children and it was perfect!"
When they first contacted us, Alison was in the US, and Goulit was still in Haiti as they were waiting on a visa. Their wedding date was up in the air, but we just knew we wanted to be the ones to capture this amazing couple. When the papers finally came through, and this day arrived, the excitement was palpable. During their first look, Goulit was so excited that he couldn't stand still! Luke kept having to remind him not to turn around too soon, and once Alison tapped his shoulder, he had the best reaction we have ever seen. Later in the day, a friend from Haiti shared a story about a time from before they were dating when Goulit was frustrated that perhaps he wouldn't end up with Alison, and shouted "no one will ever love Alison the way that I love Alison."
We can tell you, those words are true.
